About Barb

Barb Duff

I am a Nia Black Belt instructor and have been teaching since 2004. I am a proud co-creator of the thriving Nia program at Dance Underground on Capitol Hill in Seattle.

I found Nia after a long history of competitive sports that left me mentally drained and physically battered. With a torn ACL, bursitis in my shoulder, and a complete disconnect from my heart and spirit, Nia offered me fitness on my terms, for my body and my mind. I am continually dazzled by how athletic Nia allows me to be without sacrificing my physical or emotional self. And best of all, it's fun!

In 2010, I completed Zumba Basics Training and am part of the Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN). Zumba is an all out dance party charged with electric Latin and Pop rhythms, and I love the energy this practice generates.

As an instructor of both The Nia Technique and Zumba Fitness, I strive to create a safe space for movement and expression. I encourage my students to play, explore, and dance from an authentic place reminding them that feeling good overrules looking good. To see exhilarated, radiant faces at the end of class is an absolute joy.
